Annual Training for Co-workers and Publishing department

Annual training was held from 22nd to 25th of July for co-workers and people at our publishing department who work with us. Through the training, we have learnt the way to communicate in the work place. Making groups with people from same working place and play some games and activities to know our communication skill and ability to understand each other. Then we realized that we often guess the situation but not actually understand it correctly. We also learnt very basic manners and etiquette.

Prayed at chapel

On 24th and 25th, workers at publishing department had their trainings. Our sisters, Abbess and co-workers were participating from Sendai, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, Hiroshima, Yumaguchi, Fukuoka, and Nagasaki. In the morning, we had visited Kyobunkan, a bookshop specializing in Christianity publications, in Ginza. They are similar to our organization, which has sales department or a bookshop and publishing department. A children book section, called Narnia is 6th floor, CD, DVD and various Christian goods are at "Ein Karem", 4th floor, and books of Christianity and Theology are on 3rd floor. A shopkeeper shows us around the building and explained about each floor. We were so impressed that every floor are well displayed and has such a wide variety of books and goods.

Meeting with the president of Kyobunkan

Before we leave there, we had a chance to see the president and heard about history and mission of his company. The Kyobunkan was founded by a Methodist priest in 1885. It was originally established to preach Christianity with writings or bibles and books. Today, technologies are developed further and so they also preaching through Internet as well as books. Many non- Christians are also visiting here, which may be the location of the bookshop, Ginza. And we could see that he is trying very hard to certify customers' needs. Furniture and bookshelf are well selected which makes the place very comfortable. All the staff is friendly and kindly, which we should learn from them.

In the afternoon, we introduced our bookshop by using power points, and explained from very basic information, such as its location, opening hours, as well as our effort for publication of books, management, and so on.

Introducing our bookshop

On the very last day, we shared our opinions such as what we have learnt through this training, as well as our new aims, or what we archive for our bookshop and work. We built our new aims and think about how we should be by the time we finish next year. And we gathered at the chapel and present a piece of paper, which we wrote our new aims on, and prayed for a coming year.

Through this opportunity to show each working places, a sense of solidarity arose among us. New ideas also came out, such as poster and homemade pop. It was a meaningful time for all.

Also we are all looking forward to seeing each other next year to find out how we achieve our new aims.
